Dog poop left in a yard is a health problem, a lawn problem, and a water problem — and in several of the towns we serve, it’s against the rules.
Can dog poop make you sick?
It can. Roundworm, hookworm, and giardia live in dog poop and can survive in soil for months, reinfecting your dog and reaching your kids.
Does dog poop kill grass?
It does. Dog poop isn’t the fertilizer people assume: concentrated nitrogen burns yellow patches into turf and kills the roots underneath. Regular removal keeps the lawn even.
Where does it go when it rains?
Into the storm drain. MSD, the St. Louis sewer district, says storm sewers drain “directly to our area streams without any treatment.” Those streams feed the Meramec, the Missouri and the Mississippi.
